The Jesus vs. Religion Thing

Why is the whole “I’m into Jesus not into religion” approach generating so much controversy? I thought we evangelicals had been saying this since about 1960.  Why is anyone upset about it? I don’t get it. It’s just an old fashioned call to authenticity.

Why does anyone care what this dude thinks anyway?  It seems like we care because a bunch of other people care and those people all care because of another bunch of people cared and no one is sure at what point enough people started caring enough so the others would care, or what it was about the thing which inherently led the first people to care.

According to a YouTube expert nobody get’s 18 million hits in a couple weeks. So there is something going on. I’m just not sure anyone knows exactly what. Think about that number for a second: it’s greater than the population of many countries.

Maybe this approaches the reason: it seems like the most popular shares on facebook and elsewhere are the types of productions that are 1) controversial on more than one level, 2)  make a strong point on one side or the other of a major controversy, 3) have a good production value and 4) randomness is also a factor.

Try that out and be sure to give me the credit if you wind up as a YouTube superstar.
